In an elastic collision both kinetic energy and momentum are conserved. In a completely elastic collision kinetic energy is conseved. We must remember the assumptions : It is a perfectly elastic collision which conserves kinetic energy. In an elastic collision the kinetic energy is conserved: the initial kinetic energy of the system is equal to the final kinetic energy.
